The New York City Transit Riders Council (NYCTRC) was created by the New York State Legislature in 1981 to represent the official voice of New York City bus and subway riders. Our 15 volunteer members are appointed by the Governor upon the recommendation of the Mayor, the Public Advocate, and the five Borough Presidents.

The NYCTRC seeks to study, investigate, monitor, and make recommendations on the maintenance and operation of the New York City Transit Authority (NYCTA), its subsidiaries, and the Staten Island Rapid Transit Operating Authority (SIRTOA). The NYCTC shall study and investigate all aspects of the day to day operation of the NYCTA and SIRTOA, monitor their performance and recommend changes to improve the efficiency of the operation thereof.
