The capital plan includes the makings of a rider’s dream come true. Funding and implementing the FY20-24 will allow the aspirations of Fast Forward, LIRR Forward and Metro-North Way Ahead. Understanding that there are a number of significant holes to fill in, we’re calling – strongly – for the city’s $3B to come earlier rather than later in the process. Approving, funding and getting the Capital Plan going will finally help bring about the 21st century transit system riders in our 21st century city need. New, dedicated operating funds are also needed to ensure the subways, buses and trains continue to improve and serve the nearly nine million daily riders. What good are new train cars and buses if they’re sitting idle because of service reductions? We look forward to working with the city and state to help avert the system’s next crisis.
