What will the region’s transportation network look like in 2045? Now is your chance to help guide the region’s transportation future as NYMTC develops its next Regional Transportation Plan, Plan 2045. A series of public workshops will be held throughout the region to gather ideas from the people who live and work here about what transportation projects and programs they’d like to see put in place over the next 25 years. A total of 12 workshops will be held in the ten-county planning area, starting on April 28th and continue through May 23rd. Click here for a list of workshops and locations. If you need special accommodations to participate in any of these workshops, or translation services into Spanish, Russian or Chinese, please contact [email protected] at least 72 hours before the meeting date.

A new online survey ‒ available at www.nymtc.mysidewalk.com from April 21st through June 30th ‒ will allow those who can’t make the meetings to share their ideas and participate in the development of Plan 2045.

When developed, NYMTC’s Plan 2045 will lay out a long-range framework for maintaining and improving the region’s transportation system: its roads, bridges, freight and mass transit facilities, and its bicycle and pedestrian networks.  It will ultimately identify the transportation improvement concepts, projects and policy recommendations that can address the region’s long-term growth challenges and needs – an initial step to bringing federal transportation dollars into the area. All transportation improvement projects that receive federal funding must be referenced in or otherwise have a basis in the Plan in order to be eligible for the funding. Federal planning regulations require that NYMTC adopt a new Plan every four years for its planning area to remain eligible for federal transportation funding. Therefore, Plan 2045 must be adopted and acceptable to the federal oversight agencies no later than October 1, 2017. More information aboutPlan 2045 will also be available beginning April 21st at www.nymtc-rtp.org.
