Advocacy Organizations

 

The New York Metropolitan Transportation Council (NYMTC) is an association of governments, transportation providers and environmental agencies that is the Metropolitan Planning Organization for New York City, Long Island and the lower Hudson Valley.

Coalition of transit advocacy organizations in the New York region. Publishes a widely read electronic weekly, “Mobilizing the Region”.

This is the major planning organization for the New York Metropolitan area, dedicated to improving the quality of life and the economic competitiveness of the 31-county New York-New Jersey-Connecticut region through research, planning, and advocacy.

Similar to the MNRCC, this is an advocacy council for users of the Metro-North New Haven Line commuter services within the state of Connecticut.

RPA and the NYU Council on Transportation co-chair the Empire State Transportation Alliance (ESTA), a consortium of civic, academic, business, labor, environmental and transportation user groups, concerned with transportation issues.

The other major advocacy organization for NYC transit riders (along with the PCAC’s own Transit Riders Council). A good source for independent reports and surveys, with somewhat of an activistic flair. Sponsored by the New York Public Interest Research Group.

The region’s leading bicycle and pedestrian citizens’ advocacy group.

The Surface Transportation Policy Partnership is a diverse, nationwide coalition working to ensure safer communities and smarter transportation choices that enhance the economy, improve public health, promote social equity, and protect the environment.
