The Long Island Rail Road Commuters Council was created by the New York, State Legislature in 1981 to study, investigate, monitor and make recommendations with respect to the maintenance and operation of the Long Island Rail Road.  The twelve members of the LIRRCC, who are required to be regular users of the railroad, are volunteers appointed by the Governor upon the recommendation of the Nassau and Suffolk County Executives and the Brooklyn and Queens Borough Presidents.
